FirstQFM CTO Isaiah Hull joined Eva Galant on Blond & Quantum for an episode of the podcast’s startup series focused on FirstQFM’s development of machine learning foundation models for quantum computing.
Hosted by Galant, founder of Blond & Quantum, the podcast explores the business and industry impact of quantum technologies through conversations with founders, scientists, investors, and technologists. The show focuses on making developments across quantum computing accessible without relying on highly technical explanations.
During the conversation, Hull discussed FirstQFM’s origins and approach to applying classical machine learning to quantum hardware, including calibration, control, circuit optimization, and other challenges that become increasingly important as quantum systems scale. He also discussed the role of foundation models across different hardware modalities and the need for greater automation as quantum processors move from hundreds toward much larger numbers of qubits.
The conversation also covered FirstQFM’s strategy for working with quantum hardware developers, the company’s approach to benchmarking and commercial applications, developments across superconducting, trapped-ion, and neutral-atom systems, and Hull’s perspective on where AI can contribute most effectively to the development of useful quantum computers.
